  • The BIG Move! Session 5
    1:00 PM-4:00 PM
    Feb-01-2017

1715 Hillburn Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504, USA

1715 Hillburn Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504, USA

We’re so close to moving into the new Mary Jane Dockery Visitor Center! The tentative move-in date is Friday January 27th.

As the old Visitor Center has been around since 1968, there has been a long stretch of time to accumulate lots of things–things that don’t necessarily have to make it over to the new place. We will be having several “purge/organize” and move sessions that we would love your support and helping hands with.

Check out the dates below to align which dates/times work best for your schedule. Thanks in advance for all of your help! We’re so excited to see Blandford grow!

Please remember that these are the tentative times and dates help will be needed. We are still awaiting final inspections and last minute changes.

  • Eco-Stewardship Work Day
    9:00 AM-12:00 PM
    Feb-11-2017

1715 Hillburn Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504, USA

1715 Hillburn Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504, USA

Eco-Stewardship work focuses on habitat restoration, trail maintenance, stream clean-up and removal of invasive species (like buckthorn, privet and honeysuckle) on several sections of our 143-acre site. Education is always a major focus of the day as volunteers learn to identify and manage plants that may be growing in their own backyards, their schools or city parks and how those plants and their volunteer efforts directly impact their surrounding environment.

This volunteer option is for individuals or groups that would like to attend an open volunteer event, like Eco-Stewardship Work Days, without becoming a registered Blandford Nature Center volunteer. Please keep in mind that while a Volunteer Application does not need to be completed, you will still be required to sign a Liability Waiver at these volunteer events.

1715 Hillburn Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504, USA

1715 Hillburn Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504, USA

We need a few volunteers to help set the mood for our annual Snowshoe with Your Sweetie events. Volunteer duties include setting up the candles on the trails, monitoring the bonfire, pouring wine, clean-up, etc.

Event Description: Take a romantic, candlelit hike through the snowy woods with your loved one. Listen to the crunch of snow, maybe the hoot of owls, and sweet whispers of wind in your ear while you experience the magic of winter in Michigan. This easy paced hike is for all experience levels. Enjoy a glass of wine from a local winery and fire after. Feel free to bring your own snowshoes or rent a pair!

Please note: In the event of not enough snow for snowshoeing there will be a naturalist guided night hike to take the place of the snowshoe hike. A refund will be given for the snowshoe rentals.
