Wild Mushroom Identification & Walk with Mycophile’s Garden

Join Chris Swinson of Mycophile’s Garden for an afternoon identifying some of the 1,000 species of mushrooms that grow in Michigan. We’ll begin with a 1 hour lecture covering the basic terms, types, habitats, and physical characteristics of our local fungi. Heading outside, we’ll spend 1.5 hours utilizing our newly acquired knowledge to search for and identify mushrooms and the characteristics needed to accurately describe, discuss, and identify them. Throughout the class we’ll discuss the importance of using the scientific names when studying or discussing fungi, as well as how to identify toxic fungi, how to best prepare and consume wild mushrooms, and more! This spring class will have a focus on morels!

Chris will have mushroom grow kits for sale at the class. Please note this is for educational purposes only – this is not a foraging/collecting class.

This program is recommended for adults and teens ages 13 and up.

Please Note: This program will take place indoors and outdoors. In the event of severe weather, the program will be canceled and participants will be notified of their refund options.

Cancellation Policy: Notice must be received at least 7 business days before the scheduled program to receive a 75% refund. There will be no refunds issued after that time. All Community Programs will be held unless there is severe weather. Please come prepared for the elements. All Community Programs will have a registrant minimum. If the minimum is not met, you will receive a call or email from Blandford Nature Center to either reschedule or receive a refund.
